You Are Not Forgotten

Description

Unless you either A. have lived in a hole under a rock your entire life, B. have/had amnesia, C. are completely clueless about the world around you, or D. all of the above, you probably recognize the significance of the date 9-11-01. That was the day that two hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center, aka the Twin Towers, early that Tuesday morning.

About 90% of the people you ask will remember, usually vividly, where they were and who they were with that fateful day. Today is the 10th anniversary of 9/11. In schools across the nation children were undoubtedly asked to write what they remembered happening that morning, and unfortunately, as the years go on, they're remembering less and less. I was five-going-on-six when it happened, and all I really remember is watching the TV in my parents' bedroom, my mom crying, and seeing the Towers fall. Granted, I have a pretty bad memory; my sister remembers about that much as well, though, since she was three, and she has an excellent memory.

Anyway, I'm getting off subject.

No matter where you live, no matter who you are, your world changed on 9-11-01. Airport security has been beefed up; security along country borders has increased. The world hasn't fully recovered from the attack the Towers received, and I don't think it ever will. We'll grow stronger, of course, but there are certain blows that leave everlasting scars, and having two terrorists slam planes into towering skyscrapers, one into the Pentagon, and one trying to hit D.C. but crashing into Pennsylvania because of the heroic passengers on board are most definitely included in that group.

On the 8th I decided to draw this tribute picture. I chose to draw Phineas, Ferb, Sam, and Danny because they're the main (and personal favorite) characters of the two shows I'm the biggest fan of. There's no real backstory to this; Phineas and Ferb built the memorial, Danny carved in the letters with a Ghost Ray (hence the glowing green-ness of it), and they're on a hill somewhere. I have no idea what those flowers are; I just wanted something with America's flag colors. The clouds are inspired by the clouds I saw driving home from my grandma's house today, though. They were beautiful: huge, puffy, and towering in columns. My mom pointed out two clouds that were off kind of by themselves, and they looked like two towers (to me, it looked like two towers falling over, which seemed freakishly ironic, in my opinion), so I stuck the two clouds in.

This is a hybrid *shot for horrible DP half ghost reference* picture of mine; the lineart and the background, excluding the memorial, sky, and the leaves on the tree, was drawn entirely in Art Rage Studio Pro 3, and the rest was colored in Photoshop Elements 7. It was fun to make the clouds and the tree. :3

To those who have lost loved ones on the horrible accident ten years ago, the world grieves your loss. You are all in our prayers/thoughts, depending on our religion or lack thereof, and we anxiously await the day that we don't have to worry about terrorist groups attacking our countries.

Thank you to all the brave individuals who selflessly risked their lives in trying to rescue people from the Towers. You are true heros, pure souls, and it's a shame we don't have more people like you in the world. If we did, it might not be as chaotic.
